October 30, 2011: “Salon 3 x 3” at The Merchant’s of Green Coffee

Salon 3 by 3 is at The Merchant’s of Green Coffee House Café (2 Matilda St, Queen E. and DVP) on Sunday October 3 from 2.00-5.00pm.

It will be an informal conversation among 3 artists and 3 poets as they riff off/about each others’ work. The artists/poets will respond to each other’s paintings and poems, read poems about how art inspires poetry, and poetry, art, and talk about the cross-pollination that happens when artists/writers of different media pay attention to each other’s work. Each of us will have a different take of course.

Not just show and read, the audience will be engaged in cross talk with their post card poems and crayon drawings which can be read or shown during the afternoon — if they want to, nothing “mandatory”!

I have done similar gigs in Toronto and on Manitoulin Island with other writers, artists and musicians, have learned a lot and been intrigued as creative horizons opened in unexpected ways.

I have never much liked the artificial division of creative categories. (Perhaps I was a medievalist in a past life?) The conversations that grow from the overlapping intersections of visual, written and aural arts fascinate me. I am delighted to work with poets Gianna Patriarcha, and Donna Langevin, and artists Grethe Jensen, Tina Conlon and Patsy Burton: six distinguished creators who are similarly intrigued. I look forward to the surprises we – and the audience- create.

Paintings will be hung and books displayed, for sale until the end of the year. Light refreshments will be offered and The Merchant’s of Green cash coffee bar will be open.
